PM Packaging manufactures custom printed snap lock bottom cartons featuring interlocking 1-2-3 bottom panels for tool-free manual assembly and secure bottom retention.

A snap lock bottom carton—frequently called a 1-2-3 bottom or Houghland box—utilizes four die-cut paperboard bottom panels designed to interlock mechanically without tape or adhesive. The bottom panels are manually folded in sequence, creating a friction-locked base that resists vertical product pressure.
As an established folding-carton manufacturer, PM Packaging engineers custom snap lock dielines for retail consumer goods, personal care products, specialty food containers, and hardware kits requiring tool-free pack-out assembly.
| Dieline Feature | Snap Lock (1-2-3) Bottom | Auto-Bottom (Crash Bottom) |
|---|---|---|
| Assembly Method | Manual 3-step fold & friction lock | Pops open instantly (pre-glued at factory) |
| Converting Overhead | Lower (eliminates bottom gluing step) | Higher (requires specialized folder-gluer setups) |
| Primary Fulfillment Fit | Manual pack-out, small-to-medium runs | High-volume automated cartoning lines |
| Bottom Seal Security | Friction-interlocked paperboard panels | Adhesive-reinforced bottom flaps |

The four bottom flaps snap into position through intuitive panel pressure, eliminating tape, glue guns, or stapling stations on manual packing lines.

Recyclability Guidance: Paperboard is inherently renewable and recyclable. Final package recyclability depends on specific converting elements, such as surface laminations, foil stamping, clear window films, adhesives, and local municipal recycling facilities.
Fold the largest bottom panel inward first to form the primary base layer.
Fold both side dust flaps over the primary panel to align the lock notches.
Fold the final tab into the center notch until panels click firmly into place.

Combine snap lock structural functionality with high-end decorative finishes including matte aqueous coating, gloss varnish, soft-touch lamination, and hot foil stamping.
