How to Decide Whether an SFL Package Needs an Insert

That stronger outer structure protects the product from compression, helps broad panels remain flat, and creates a substantial retail presentation. However, it does not automatically hold the product in place during transit.

If the item can slide, rotate, drop, collide with another component, or press against a vulnerable panel, the package may still need an insert. The same is true when a product must remain centered behind a window, arrive in a specific orientation, or create an organized opening presentation.

When Inserts Are Unnecessary

SFL boxes may skip inserts when products have close rectangular fits, carry durable primary containers (like heavy plastic jars), use integrated panels built directly into the flat blank, or represent durable components where minimal movement is acceptable.

When Inserts Are Recommended

Inserts are recommended when items move diagonally or rotationally, risk inner wall puncture (screws, tools), contain delicate pump nozzles, represent multi-product assortments, or align to transparent window displays.
